Wasps
If you see a single wasp in your house it is not normally anything to worry about. You can deal with it by using an insect spray. However, if you were to see a large number of wasps in your home or garden this could mean you have a wasp nest nearby. If this is the case you should seek professional help from a pest control company.
Ants
There are many different species of ants. The most common in the UK are Garden Ants also known as Black Ants. They are social insects that build nests to create their large colonies. Workers leave the nest to forage for food and then take it back to the nest. In searching for food they normally enter buildings which is when they become a nuisance.
Bedbugs
Bed Bugs are rapidly becoming a major pest. Unlike their name suggests they are very content living in other areas of your home. You can quiet easily become exposed to Bed Bugs in public places and unknowingly take them back to other locations, where they will spread and become a big problem.
Fleas
All Fleas have to live in a close relationship with a host. They use the host to feed which enables them to live, grow and multiply. The fleas only spend some time on the host, the rest of the time is spent in the hosts bedding or carpet. For every Flea that is found on the host there could be numerous other found in close proximity of the host.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches like to avoid daylight so generally harbour in cracks and crevices during the day. They normally emerge early evening to forage for food. Their ideal conditions include a place to hide, warmth, food and moisture. They really are a high risk pest due to the diseases they carry. Cockroaches quickly multiply in numbers causing major infestations.
Flies
As you can imagine there are literally thousands of different species of flies. The presence of some flies can indicate there could be a hygene problem or maybe a dead animal. Due to the fact that flies do not have teeth they feed on liquids. Some like the mosqueito feed on blood. Other flies will liquefy food by regurgitating digestive juices onto food.
Moths
There are many species of moths that can be found in the UK. Moths are only really active during the night. The adult moths only live for a short period of time but during this time they breed. The females then produce eggs that then turn into larvae and it is these larvae that cause the damage, not the adult moths. The larvae then pupates and eventually becomes an adult moth, the cycle restarts.
Beetles
There are probably more species of beetle than of any other order throughout the whole animal kingdom. They range from flour and grain beetles that may affect sites like factories producing bread to the carpet beetle that affects homes and offices. Again it is the larvae that cause the damage by feeding on the carpet fibres.
